DIY Built-In Wireless Charging For iPhone 4S
Advanced hack puts wireless charging inside the iPhone 4S…
Powermat has been touting it’s wireless charging technology for a few years now, but still to this day the system hasn’t made it on to mainstream devices, and for that reason can only be used in conjunction with bulky additional battery packs.
Not content with adding more girth to his precision-lined iPhone 4S, hacker Tanv28 decided to take that very same Powermat technology and cram it into the phone whilst only adding 1mm of thickness.
It goes without saying that the mod is quite advanced, but as the video demonstrates, anyone with good soldering experience, a few tools, parts, and a steady hand may just be able to pull it off.
You’ll need:
- Powermat Wireless Charger
- iPhone 4 replacement back cover
- Soldering Iron
- Spare charger port assembly
- Thing gauge wire
- A magnifying glass
- Experience soldering wires to small electrical pins
- A thin sheet of plastic and tools to cut it
Be warned that such a hack will completely void any warranty on the phone. So proceed at your own risk.
D.I.Y. hacks that require a certainly level of skill aside, the mod’ does demonstrate how easy it would be for companies to incorporate wireless charging into devices at the manufacturing stage.
Let’s hope the big wigs catch on and finally team up with Powermat to bring this technology to the masses.
