Archos enters the hybrid tablet game…

Transforming tablets are all the rage. With ASUS, Acer, Samsung, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and now Sony all sporting hybrid ultrabook/tablets, the race for the most versatile slate is on.

A long-standing maker of tablets, even before the days of the iPad, Archos has just released its new hybrid tablet, the 101 XS.

The main feature of the Archos 101 XS is the detachable coverboard and its’ full sized QWERTY chiclet keyboard, which doubles as a kickstand.

The 101 XS tablet itself is also extremely thin at 0.31” (8mm), which is 15 percent thinner than the new iPad, according to the company. Even with the coverboard the machine measures just 0.51” (13mm).

This 10.1 inch tablet has a resolution of 1,280×800, a 1.5GHz dual-core OMAP 4470 CPU, 16GB of onboard storage (accepts microSD cards of up to 64GB), and runs Android 4.1 (upgrades to Jelly Bean will come towards the end of 2012).

While the specification of the Archos 101 XS might not be anything breakthrough, the sleek lines, and usability of the tablet certainly put it up there with other sliding and hybrid tablets.
