Asus offers a fierce competitor to the iPad and one of the best alternatives to buying an iPad 2. It is a tablet that can truly replace a netbook or ultra-portable laptop.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer offers an ultra thin and light design in a unique, stylish pattern for a powerful mini-cinema entertainment on-the-go. The Transformer sets itself apart from other tablets on the market by featuring an optional docking station which will also help to extended its battery life to 16 HOURS!

Asus has been pioneering the input devices for tablet PC’s seems to be all the rage at this year’s CES with Lenovo, Samsung and ASUS all introducing slates with sliding, detachable, and transforming keyboard options.

Adding to its range of table PC devices, ASUS unveiled its Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider tablets. As the name suggests, the Slider comes with a built in keyboard that ‘slides’ out. The Transformer however, doesn’t necessarily transform, but detaches from its keyboard base.

The Eee Pad Transformer’s keyboard also serves as a docking station that provides up to 16 hours of wireless computing, without the dock the Pad itself should last up to 8 hours.

Both tablets will feature a 10.1” capacitive touchscreen, NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processors, 512MB – 1GB RAM, dual cameras (1.2-megapixel front and 5-megapixel rear), Bluetooth 2.1, WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, mini USB 2.0, mini HDMI, 2-n-1 headphone/mic input, micro SD, and will run Android 3.0 operating system when shipped.

The Slider will come in 16GB or 32GB versions, the Transformer 16GB/32GB or 64GB.

ASUS says the Transformer will be released in April priced between $399 and $699, the Slider will come out a little later in May priced between $499-$799.
