Check out video clips of the forth-coming BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet PC…

Research In Motion’s upcoming BlackBerry Playbook tablet PC has received some more air time in several Internet videos that show a working prototype somewhat fulfilling the company’s previous promises.

In the series of the videos – one of which features RIM CEO Mike Lizaridis – the PlayBook can be seen multitasking applications and browsing rich Web content seemingly faster than its rival the iPad.

When the PlayBook was first unveiled at the RIM annual BlackBerry Developer Conference in September, skeptics assumed the device was nothing more than vaporware. But as you can see from the video the OS is quick, smooth, and its custom GUI appears to be coming on nicely.

The device itself is housed in a sleek 5.1 x 7.6 x 0.4 inch case with a 7 inch 1024 x 600 capacitive multitouch display. At its core is a Cortex A9-based dual-core 1GHz CPU with 1GB RAM. Both 16GB and 32GB versions have been spotted, although it’s not confirmed if these will be the only storage options available.

The PlayBook will support 1080p and features a HDMI port and microUSB jack for easy connection to your HDTV TV, Monitor or computer. RIM has also included both a front and rear facing camera for video conferencing.

As expected the device will come with 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. RIM said that 3G and 4G versions will be available in the future.

The custom OS – created by QNX – is simply called the BlackBerry Tablet OS and promises a better Web-browsing experience than the iPad by supporting OpenGL, POSIX, HTML5, Flash, Adobe AIR apps and Java.

Commenting on the new OS, company Founder, Dan Dodge, said “[It’s] an incredible gaming platform for publishers and the players.”

Hopefully this will lead to the development of a lot of useful apps, games and internal tweaks, but whether or not the PlayBook will stand up to the sale of Apple’s iPad it’s simply too difficult to tell.
