Cobra Gold 2010 Military Exercise in Thailand was a Great Opportunity to Show Our Thanks and See Our Military in Action On-and-Off Duty
Cobra Gold 2010 was our second year sponsoring events held by MCCS. We were able to offer several great prizes to our military men and women in uniform as a sign of our thanks for what they do. In total over $4,000 in prizes were raffled, free all-inclusive golf tournament, and a free pizza party (with soda and beer included) to watch the Super Bowl. For those of you who could not make it, here is what you can look forward to for next year’s Cobra Gold.

Cobra Gold 2010
Cobra Gold is an annual sponsored multinational exercise conducted in Thailand that began in 1982. Exercise COBRA GOLD is designed to improve U.S. joint and multinational coordinating and planning to execute multinational operations. This year Cobra Gold is co-sponsored by USPACOM (U.S. Army) and Royal Thai Supreme Commander training guidance.
Full participating nations for Cobra Gold 2010 include: Thailand; United States; Singapore; Indonesia; Japan; and South Korea. Up to 10 Multinational Planning Augmentation Team (MPAT) nations and up to 10 Coalition Observer Liaison Team (COLT) nations are also expected to participate: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mongolia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.
Exercise and training will be conducted in 6 regions:
Laem Cha Bang
Gulf of Thailand
Ban Cham Krem
When ever our military is deployed they are quick to get involved with the local community and lend a helping hand while making some good friends. We find that they are great stewards of America and ambassadors of good will. During the Cobra Gold exercise the military helped with building of schools and roads. Even when they have free time to do whatever they want, they choose to take out some time and visit the orphanages and locals. We were lucky enough to attend one of these gatherings and wanted to share it with you since you will most likely not find it featured on any headline news.
Cobra Gold Golf Tournament
The golf tournament held on Sunday February 7th at Plutaluang Royal Thai Navy Golf Course with a tee time of 7am. The tournament will be played on 18 holes between the South and North courses with a 4 person scramble play. The event was open to all Cobra Gold participants and over 100 golfers took advantage of the free golf fees, caddies, and even golf clubs. After a little over 3 hours of game play, the players made their way back to the club house to freshen up, get some food and drinks, and see what the score sheets revealed. Winners received various high-end electronics and golfing rated merchandise.
Closest To The Pin
A par 3 hole was designated on each course for the closest to the pin challenge. One of the holes was a race to the end with the Navy First Class Petty Officer eventually having the winning shot. The other Closest to the Pin Challenge hole was held by the Commander who was also the first person to tee off from that hole. His first shot of the game was also his winning shot. The 1st Class Petty Officer Johnson took home the Sony S-Frame Digital Photo Display while the Marine Corps Commander took home the highly sought after Bose SoundDock. Below is a review of the prizes:
Get more entertainment from your photo. The Sony S-Frame digital photo frame comes with 1GB internal and can store up to 2000 images that can be displayed as a single picture, multiple thumbnails, or a slideshow presentation. The 7” widescreen (16:10) LCD screen showcases your memories in WVGA resolution (800 x 480) and vivid color, while an Auto Orientation sensor automatically rotates your photos into portrait or landscape format. Direct USB input from most digital cameras and support for most memory cards makes it easy for virtually anyone to transfer photos and relive meaningful events. Clock and calendar display modes and an included remote control provide added convenience.
With iPod sales through the roof, it seemed only natural that the leader in portable music team up with the leader in speakers to create the best portable sound station. That is just what Apple and Bose did. The SoundDock Series II digital music system inherits all the award-winning traits of its predecessor, with sleek styling and additional features. If you want a proven performer for at-home iPod listening, our iPod speaker system now has even more to offer. Remote control handles power, volume, track seek and iPod playlist navigation.
Best Overall Score
Just like the previous year, the golfing scores were close and the military brought some tough competition. Runners up were given various golfing accessories – this included the Marines that took 1st place last year finishing 2nd place this year. This year’s Cobra Gold 2010 Championship team went to the Navy Aircrew stationed in Hawaii. Obviously playing on the courses in America’s paradise paid off big. The 4 players divided up the high-end golf equipment and added their names to the annual Cobra Gold Golf Trophy.

Super Bowl Party

Prizes were raffled off during various breaks in the game while the top prizes were raffled of at: kick-off, during half-time, and after the game. Each location had a unique prize, while all locations had an opportunity to win the top 2 prizes. Below is a review of the hot electronics military members won:
