First public appearance for the long-awaited stealth fighter, the F-35 Lighting II…
The highly anticipated, long awaited stealth fighter, the F-35 Lighting II JSF, made its first public appearance at the Joint Base Andrews, Md, annual air show, May 21st, 2011.
Accompanied by an F/A 18 Hornet chase plane, the F-35C variant of the new strike fighter – a model that will be operated by the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps on large deck carries – took off from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md and executed a flyby for the crowd at Andrews, before carrying on with its scheduled test flight.
The F-35 was piloted by Lt. Cmdr. Eric “Magic” Buus as part of a commemoration marking 100 years of naval aviation.
