Griffon Hoverworks 2400TD Hovercraft
Fancy owning a hovercraft designed and built for the British Marines?
In this day and age there isn’t a thing you can’t hunt down and buy on the Internet. I remember the days when trying to buy military grade devices or vehicles took hours of endless flicking through phonebooks and magazine, visiting auctions and talking with specialists before you’d come anywhere near encountering something worthwhile. But now all it takes is a few quick strokes of the keyboard and you could stumble across a site like Griffon Hoverwork and buy yourself Hovercraft.
Through its online store, avid military buffs and thrill seekers with enough cash can purchase themselves a fully functional hovercraft, originally designed and built for the British Marines.
At 44ft in length and 14ft high when hovering, the Griffon Hoverwork’s 2400TD can operate in waves up to a 3.2ft and clear obstacles up 2.5ft. It can carry up to 20 passengers and has a maximum payload of 2.4 tones. Carry its full capacity the 440KW 585HP engine propels the craft up to speeds of 30knots (34mph). The craft also has foldable side decks which can be collapsed to reduce its width.
Although the hovercraft was primarily designed for military use, it’s ideal for search and rescue, as well as commercial operations. Griffon Hoverwork’s hovercrafts can also be built to ‘Lloyds classification or any preferred classification Society’.
No sign of any price on the website, but it appears that other sources (namely ThinkDefence) have it pegged at 1.5 million dollars.
