Internet Browsers And Battery Life
Is your internet browsers draining your laptop battery? Check the list below to see how your browser rates...
We recently posted an article featuring the 10 best battery hacks we could find. Several of them were geared to getting more battery life out your laptop, and here’s anther tip in that category – different internet browsers demand varying amounts of power from your battery.
Yes, that’s right folks, the browser you are using to surf the internet, may not be the most efficient on battery life. Here’s the results:
Surprisingly enough, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 comes in top, saving a whopping 44 mins in battery life compared to the power hungry Safari 4.
The analysis, done by AnandTech, involved continually loaded three web sites (AnandTech and two unnamed sites) on three laptops (a Gateway NV52 and NV58, and an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA), then comparing the each computer’s battery life.
While the test revealed some interesting results, power usage isn’t everything when it comes to browsers. Personally, I would not chose IE8 over Firefox just to gain a possible 7 mins of battery time, without Firefox’s wide range of add-ons my Internet browsing would simply not be the same.
Nevertheless, who would of guesses your Internet browser could have such an effect on your laptop’s battery life?
