The M41-A Pulse Rifle
Homemade M41-A Pulse Rifle – the real sci-fi weapon featured in the 1986 cult classic, Aliens.
The M41-A Pulse Rifle, featured in the 1986 sci-i thriller, Aliens, is one of the world’s most famous filming props.
Made from three real weapons (the World War II vintage M1A1 Thompson, the Remington 870 shotgun and the SPAS-12), the M41-A’s that featured in the cult classic were fully functional models that fired 45 cal. blanks, and blank 12 gauge shot gun rounds.
In true geek style the guys over at TK560.com constructed their own M41-A. Their model pretty much matches the exact specifications of the original M41-A’s, with the exception of a few parts, the firearms have also been deactivated to comply with US law.
Going by the sounds of it, the build wasn’t easy. Made up of real guns, parts and replica kits painstakingly sourced from local pawn shops, ebay, the RPF, ASAP, BBC and other forums, this certainly took a long time and a lot money to get right.
Even after the parts had been located, several of the replica’s turned out to be inaccurate or not to scale. This meant drastic modifications to get get the parts working together.
The original article offers an extremely good guide if you want to build your own M41-A, with suggestions on where to purchase each part, in depth explanations about the modifications and custom fittings, as well as step by step images of each stage.
Figuring that the most readers won’t be looking to actually build an M41-A, I’ve decided to leave out the technical details, but here are some shots from the guy’s on line diary.
