UPDATE FROM BLACKFIVE:

Just in- Another co-worker of SSGT Dean’s forwards his have MySpace page In deference to accuracy and at the request of many of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children, I have added a T to the SSG in SSGT Dean’s rank. Ooh rah, Eat the Apple……never mind. Semper Fi.

Most of you saw this video when we posted it earlier this week, and most of you wrote to say how wonderful it was. It contained many heartfelt sentiments about what being an American and an American fighting man means. The artist was unknown, until now. Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce you to SSGT Lawrence E. Dean II. A reader who may claim her kudos in the comments if she wants to, alerted us that SSgt Dean was the artist and he worked with her husband. She sent along B5 contact info and then let me know we needed to coordinate with the Cherry Point PAO and Mr. Mike Barton was very helpful and facilitated a phone interview w/ SSGT Dean. Here is the coolest thing, the piece is titled She Called, well She is his Grandma and the piece is his explanation to her of why he would go to war. WOW! It was great to talk with him and I wish him the best in what could be a second career. Semper Fi!

All the gangsta rappers in America should hang their head in shame. Here’s a rap artist with a real message.
No profanity, no veiled message about lack of hope, no mention of “ho’s”. Should be a platinum single but it’s not the message that stations want to play.
Long live the U. S. Marines.

Doyle I couldn’t agree with you more! My buddies in the Army and Marines have done MCing on the side, but none of them expressed themselves with a positive message like this Marine.

I hope this Marine gets a lot of attention and maybe helps the hip hop scene see that you don’t have to be negative to be a hit.

    Thanks for the comments!

  3. Thanks for the plug!
FYI, we found the guy and will be posting more of his work on our site.

I was first introduced to this young man’s poetry about the time my husband deployed. It was a great inspiration to me and I shared it with everyone else that I knew would also be missing him. This man’s expose actually (but not surprisingly) brought tears to my eyes.
