Military Super Suit Exoskeleton

Military Super Suit Exoskeleton

Military Super Suit Exoskeleton for Enhanced Strength and Power for Our Military Soldiers

It has always been a goal to improve our military strength and skill over our soldiers. DARPA has been at the fore-front of technology that is taking this to a new level. A robotic exoskeleton that would let GIs run faster, leap further and carry more is starting to materialize and become reality. A very practical and ambitious idea that is allowing many more options for our military.

According to DARPA, the exoskeletons will be delivered for Army testing in 2008. After 14 companies and universities initially (circa 2001) came up with different designs, they have selected the firm that will build the beast: Sarcos of Salt Lake City in Utah, US.

Sarcos has come up with a system that uses just one engine instead of lots of them. The engine, and a tank containing a 24-hour supply of fuel, will be slung ‘beneath your rear end’ says Main. The engine (a turbine, two-stroke or four stroke – they haven’t decided yet) will then drive hydraulic fluid via high pressure lines to servo valves on each joint, amplifying the force used to move each limb when the wearer’s motion is sensed.

“It makes you feel really, really strong. You get the sensation that you have a lot of strength. I sort of felt like The Hulk and I’m a skinny guy. I wore a 100-pound weight on my back and it felt I was carrying nothing like that amount,”

In 2006, Engineers in Japan were perfecting a wearable power suit that amplifies human strength to help lift hospital patients or heavy objects. It was driven by portable batteries, micro air pumps and small body sensors that pick up even the slightest muscle twitch. Lead by project researcher Hirokazu Noborisaka, the Stand-Alone Wearable Power Assist Suit was designed to help nursing home workers lift patients of up to 180 pounds while cutting the amount of strength required in half.

However, that suit needed to be more flexible for easier movement and protective cover that shrouds the suit’s sensitive or sharp areas.

seems cool but will it work. if you get wrong it could coast lives inclouding your own. but it seems low tech dosn’ it and why poast it online so enemies can see it

  2. gerald says:

    include this…

  3. Peter says:

Hey i would love to be like the ginni pig i would love to try this i would do any thing its cool i will hopefully get to try it i m joining the army soon so plzzzz let me try it

  4. Ryan night says:

it seems very plausible to make that kind of suit but question is it going have nanotechnology attached cause the only way i could think a suit like that could work is if it was attached with some sortof nanites with sensory that was able to read the movments of the body so when u would grab or punch sumthing the sensor would immediatly react with your own mucles and use that extra electronic pulse to enhance it to an extreme. and what would the effects be on the body while wearing it i mean even with the extra strenth how is it the bones in the body wont shatter and the electronic pulse that would enhance your strenth could overuse the mucles or fry the nerves somehow right??? would it be like a serious exoskeliton or like a rubbryglove material all around the body like a latex suit?? and would it only be 4 the millitary or could u buy it with the right ammount of money. i love the idea of it and it seems possible very possible im jus kinda worried about the effects on it on the human body i would love to try this suit if its 4 the millitary is it gunna have camoflage on it ……last question how would u go about making this mabye i could build one =}.

  5. Jalen Bullock says:

That is amazing wonder if itll ever be as good as the Halo guys suit But will every one in the military use it or will only elites use it, and what about testing

  6. Jalen Bullock says:

Maybe you should try to put some sort of sturdy and durably gel/foam that can keep you body and bones from being hurt from large impacts like long falls etc. Will the face mask glass be bullet proof and one way glass.
Also will the suite have homing beacons, and also i dont understand the nanos that can heal the soldier?

  7. Rich says:

That Aero Gel would be a perfect material to incorporate. It could help dissipate heat and increase strength while not adding weight to the suit.

I am sure the suits will be GPS and have a remote tech monitoring the suit/soldier. That would allow 2-in-1.

The nano bots are being used in the medical industry. It would allow the doctors to give medical care without opening them up or using hands.

  8. QuitoValdez says:

I guess the secret is to NOT be shot in the under buttock fuel tank or you’ll make an ash of yourself. Would be a spectacular American Pie lit phart gone wild at some point in the future on Utube, LOL.

  9. adds says:

cool man, where can i get one of those bad boys?

  10. adds says:

bit of a bummer,if u get blasted into the water man!

  11. Rich says:

I guess they are going to have to build in Scuba gear and ballast tanks.

  12. Matt says:

Thats a good use of tax dollars. I hope this works. Kinda reminds me of Halo. This is something i could get used to but how long will it take? honestly get some jet boots in this baby.

  13. Wetleef says:

Ha ha he, yeah. I wouldn’t worry about the developments on the suit or all the fun little toys to put on it. The real problem at least physically, is that Sarcos and any other corporations that want to make a fortune, know exactly what kind of energy is needed to make a suit’s output worth it’s cost but the safety behind such power is enormously risky. Most likely, a suit with the efficient power supply would be about the equivalant of a walking-nuke. . .

On top of that, I don’t think anyone in the top brass really understands the full potential of such a weapons platform. . .

However, what I would really ponder is what phycological effects would become the user in the exoskeleton or power armor. I mean, given that he would probably be with it more than anything else (like a tank crew for a tank), ecspecially if said suits were given an AI system to manuever with the solider inside.

There’s still a long way to go :)

  14. Sean says:

Science fiction becomes reality. I am amazed at what technology enables people to do. Robo-suits were featured in “Alien” and the “Matrix” movies, of course “Iron Man” and perhaps books I have not read. (wasn’t Alien a book first?) I think we have the technology to power these independantly. The video says production models will be independant. Many companies are developing better batteries. I don’t think it will be a problem for the human mind.

I just hope we won’t find ourselves battling these robo suits in a future post-apocalyptic world. jkjk ;-)

    good job!!!

  15. tyree clark says:

when does it come out because im in the marines in boot camp and they are sending me to irac next week so does it come out this year

  16. Hex says:

anything is possible, and i am sure through out the course of time this suit will make it either in our time or onother. As you can see we are always advancing in technology every day. Just think from the days of Moses just to say till now. we humans dont stop. If the inventor dies someone else picks up where he left off.

  18. Chris Schaefer says:

if you get shot in the back of the suit will it stop working because you dont want to have the most vital shot in a blind spot

  19. Josiah says:

I think it should use electric power so there isn’t the issue with flammable gases. It could probably take some major damage if you think about it, if they add shock-absorbers to the feet it could take longer jumps, add the right shell it could probably offer sufficient protection from bullets without reducing it’s strength too much do to wait.

  20. Wetleef says:

Ha he, wow…can’t believe I found my post again…

Vulnerable spots? I guess it really depends on what levels of miniturization that the suit will evolve to. But, in any case, the whole point of having a suit is that it completely encompases you. The greatest non-military value it likely will have is in hazardous enviroments (construction, R&D, space, heavy engineering, etc). So to say the least, exposure shouldn’t be a problem, but, like a head wound is more critical than others, there will always be critical points in combat.

And as for energy…gases?! whoa, I would’t want to be anywhere near a suit on fossil fuel. Ha he, like a plane before take-off…

Though I have no doubt electric energy would be the supurior main supply of energy, the current outlook is a measly 24-hour max battery.

To expand on this, the greatest threat to anyone in a powered suit is EMP. If you were shorted in combat you would basicly be slammed to the ground by your own weight and be pinned there untill you could ‘pop’ the suit or be taken out by others. Of course different degrees of hardened systems could counteract this threat, but then we’re back to escalation…

ha ha he, pinned in a half-ton suit in the middle of crossfire. FML

  21. SpheareD says:

I dream if these kind of suits being readily available.

The only problem is humanity is not ready to have such tech so easily available.

A new mentality and trust is required, the suits would end up causing more harm then good in the long run.

    I wont one!!!

    :)

  22. Working on Med disability says:

Earlier this afternoon I had to deliver 10 cases of paper up two flights of stairs, a case of paper being 53 lbs I had to lug 530 lbs of paper up 20 something stairs. When can I get one at work that can hold a case of paper with out breaking the straps or tearing the card board box.

  23. doyle says:

I can think of hundreds of applications for this. But is it stealthy? Can u low crawl? Does it impede ones capabilities while firing a weapon? Submersible?

  24. jon says:

why not make the bullet proof armour SOLAR POWERDDDD , wowwww problem solved .

and also due to new optics technology  , solar power intake will be increasing ALOT , like having solar panels will actually be worth it . nano scale is changing the world

  25. jack valentine says:

this will never work, and neither will solar panels. its a decent idea but what if you hav to be indorrs through the misson. what you need is a suit that isnt bulky but is like another layer of skin that works with your body to make it better made of a completly bullet proof material not something that in itself will weigh 30-40 pounds
