Nintendo’s new 3DS XL goes on sale…

Nintendo has released its new 3DS XL handheld gaming console; a bigger brother to the popular 3DS.

The new larger system sports a 4.88-inch stereoscopic 3D top screen, compared to the 3DS’s 3.53-inch screen, and the bottom screen measures 4.18 compared to 3.02 inches on the original DS.

The 3DS XL – which is available in three colors; blue, red and silver – weighs in at 11oz compared to 8oz, and has a longer battery life of 3.5 – 6.5 hours of game play. The system also comes with a 4GB SD card instead of the 2GB provided with the DS.

While American consumers will receive the power adaptor in the box, European customers will have to a buy it separately, and although that does seem rather annoying, the 3DS, DSi and DSi XL AC adaptor will be compatible with the new machine so there’s a chance you might not have to run out and buy one immediately.

Unfortunately the ‘Circle Pad Pro’ attachment will not be compatible with the machine.

3DS XL is already on sale in the States, and will be available in Europe at the end of this month. The console will come in three colors: blue, red and silver.
