Samsung Galaxy Tab
How will the Samsung Galaxy compete against the iPad?
Samsung were briefly in contention to rival the iPhone with the release of its Galaxy and Wave smartphones early this year, however neither campaign took hold, and most of the population are still wielding an Apple handset to this day.
But Samsung’s plans to beat Apple at its own game are clearly not over as the release of the 7” Galaxy tab is now upon us.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the device will start shipping over the next few weeks from 3 major U.S. wireless phone carriers for ‘$400 with a cellular data contract, or at $600 with cellular capability but no contract.’
The multi-touch tablet PC promises users a ‘PC-like web-browsing’ with which they can ‘enjoy all forms of media content.’ If that’s truly the case, the Galaxy tab could indeed rival the slightly lager Apple iPad – a device that has notable Flash compatibility issues.
The Galaxy tab sports a 7” multi-touch TFT-LCD screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution. At the core is a Cortex A8 1.0GHz CPU that delivers supports for Full HD 1080p video playback and 720 x 480 video recording via its 3.0 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash. There’s also a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing.

The device runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), supports Flash Player 10.1 and comes with a custom Android Samsung User Interface (UI). System memory clocks in at 512MB RAM and a microSD expansion slot provides up to 32GB of extra storage.
The Galaxy will come with WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0, and will support 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE) : 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz, 3G (HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA7.2 Mbps) : 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz networks.
We’ll be stocking the Samsung Galaxy as soon it’s available. Keep an eye on our Product Catablog for full specifications after its release.
