Secure and Reliable Dedicated Servers
Deals and options are endless on the internet. That is why quality and service matters - especially when it comes to your data and business.
As reported in our previous posts, we discussed the problems about hosting reliability and connection problems that result in unnecessary downtime. The internet caters to the “here and now” demographic. Where everything is instantaneous and real-time. As technology advances expectations increase and rightly so. Technology is available to make downtime, connection problems and issues in general non-existent.
Have you ever browsed a website and came to a link that brought you to an empty page or didn’t load correctly? What did you do? Well if you are like most people you clicked away never to return. When you see a broken page a bunch of negitive reasons come to mind. All reasons why you shouldn’t even try to return again. If it is a new customer, the chances that they will try again only decreases more.
There are 3 main reasons why a website is unavailable – all of which are easily prevented.
The first is internal website issues. This relates to the coding of the website. It may be an error that is not compatible with the browser or mobile website. Also, the code may be outdated and no longer compatible. These issues do not necessarily relate to the server that is hosting the website.
The next problem is server problems. The website may be perfectly coded. With money poured into designing the latest and greatest website, it can not be viewed because of the server. The server has its own software, applications, hardware, and other vital details that require to be working seamlessly to show your website on the internet non-stop. The host is responsible for the entire server inventory that has hundreds of websites on each. You will want a host that is up for the challenge everyday
Data Centre Issues
Reliable Data Centres
The final common problem is the data centre driven problems. This has to do with the actual building the server is in. If that building loses power or has problems then the working server is unable to connect with the internet. This is the least common problem of the three, but still happens when hosting companies try to cut corners to reduce costs. Strangely enough data connection problems usually occur because of water. Water is used for cooling, come from leaks in the building, or neighboring rooms/building flood. If damage does come from water – the repairs are slow and costly. Electrical problems are the most clearly addressed by any Tier 3 or Tier 4
Of all the problems, the main issues to look out for is server failure. This is a result of software and hardware issues. Think about how many problems your computer has! Rebooting your computer is easy, but a server with hundreds of websites it is not that simple.
Dedicated servers are the best way to reduce server issues. This means you do not share the server with other people. In an attempt to have the cheapest hosting, customers sign-up for shared hosting not realizing what it really is. It is a computer that you will share limited resource and bandwidth with – all of whom want to have the more of it to themselves.
Hardware failure is not usually associated with websites and the internet, but every website resides on a hard drive that requires a CPU and plenty of memory. Hard drives, memory, power units, etc. all fail. New hardware is decrease the chances but in the event it does fail all you can hope for is good response time to these issues and honest answers.
When possible stay away from cheap hardware and shared hosting. Look for dependable data centre that provide honest and reliable support.
