Sonys New Rechargeable Batteries With 4X Lifespan

Sony has announced a new rechargeable battery, that combines high-power and long-life performance with rapid charge times.

The new ‘Olivine’ batteries utilize lithium iron phosphate, a perfect cathode material due to its robust structure and stable performance, even at high temperatures.

The new batteries have a high power density of 1800W/kg, and extended life span of approximately 2,000 charge-discharge cycles – over 4x times that of existing lithium batteries. Furthermore, the Olivine batteries will hold an 80% charge retention even after those 2,000 charge-discharge cycles.

When it comes to charging, Sony claim the new batteries will reach 99% charge in just 30 mins!

Sony say that batteries will first be sold with power tools before making their way into consumer electronic devices. Tech Specs below….
