Sony Paper-Thin Rollable OLED
Sony’s new OLED display is flexible enough to roll around a pencil…
Sony has unveiled its new OLED display that is flexible enough to roll around a pencil while still playing video.
The new screen is just 80 microns thick (that’s equal to 80 millionths of a meter, or in laymen’s terms about as thick as a human hair), it can display full color video and roll up without degrading picture quality.

OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diode) and flexible OLEDs have been around for a few years now (read our original ‘What is an OLED display?’ article here>>>) but this is the first time we’ve seen such a device with good potential for the consumer market.
Sony plan to release more details when it presents the technology to Society for Information Display’s 2010 symposium in Seattle later this week.
