Switchblade UAV is the U.S. Army’s electronic suicide bomber...
The Switchblade UAV is one of the U.S. Army’s newest toys. But not only is the compact UAV a valuable recon bot, it also pack a kamikaze punch.
Developed by AeroVironment, the Switchblade is basically a guided missile that streams a video feed back to the controller on the ground. It’s small enough to be transported in a rucksack launched from an equally transportable sling. Once in the skies the craft provides valuable recon of the ground below and if an enemy is spotted it can be directed at the target where it explodes upon impact. If nothing is spotted, the craft can return to base unscathed ready for the next mission.
In clip below you can see exactly why such a craft is going to be an extremely useful tool in the Army’s arsenal. Excuse the quality of the video, the original hi-res version has been removed, but since you can still see how effective this type of suicide UAV is, so I thought it was worth including. Enjoy.
