The new concept, which is set for release ‘later this summer’, is a chance for tech fans to help evaluate the device first hand. Toshiba hopes the feedback received from the limited number of Libretto users will help the company develop future models free from hardware issues and software bugs.

Carl Pinto Vice president of product development at Toshiba’s Digital Products Division explained:

We will issue a limited run of the libretto W100. We design our products around the way people actually want to use them, so getting this concept PC out into the hands of early technology adopters will allow us to gather invaluable feedback that we can filter into future product developments.

The dual screen PC features two 7-inch 1024 x 600 multi-touch displays, an Intel Pentium 1.2 GHz processor, a 62 GB solid state drive, a 1-megapixel camera and 2 GB of memory, all housed in a 7.95? x 4.84? x 1.2? casing. It runs Windows 7 and weighs about 1.8 lbs – slightly heavier than Apple’s 1.6 lbs iPad.

As can be expected from today’s mobile touch screen devices, the Libretto W100 features an accelerometer that enables auto switching between portrait and landscape modes. The screens can be used together or separately, allowing documents and images to be spread over both; and to support the many ways the Libretto can be used, Toshiba has include six virtual keyboard modes and a virtual touchpad.
