TRAPSNet Counter RPG Vehicle Protection System
DARPA successfully test modified version of Textron Defense System’s counter-RPG vehicle protection systems, the Tactical Rocket-Propelled Grenade Airbag Protection System (TRAPS)...
DARPA has successfully tested a new anti-rocket-propelled-grenade system that deploys a net to counter and passively defeat the incoming projectile.
The new countermeasure, known as TRAPSNet, is an upgrade to the company’s Tactical Rocket-Propelled Grenade Airbag Protection System (TRAPS) – originally tested in 2010. Using an array of sensors, TRAPSNet is able to detect incoming threats. Once locked on, it fires its net countermeasure to engulf the RPG and minimize collateral damage.

The system can be configured for partial or complete coverage on both heavy and lightweight vehicles; it also has the capacity to take multiple hits on single installation.
No word on when the system could see deployment across the board of military vehicles stationed out in Afghanistan, however successful trials of the TRAPSNet and TRAPS systems over the past year prove that Textron’s counter systems are top of the list when it comes to passive anti-RPG vehicle protection.
