What about Win32.CIH?
What about Michelangelo?
Yes, the above mentioned virii were nasty little buggers that crashed servers and wreaked havoc on systems that did not have database backups.
But back in the day, viruses were not just . They didn’t just seek to steal information. They wanted your computer DEAD. Michelangelo kept you from accessing your hard drive at a time when, for the average layperson, the only way to restore anything was via floppy disk or digital audio tape drive. We are positively spoiled by today’s standards with imaging backup systems and gadgets like Apple’s Time Machine.
Once people started getting the hang of making backups, though, the virogens upped the ante. Variants of CIH would use low-level calls to wipe out the EEPROM that holds your PC’s BIOS code, effectively necessitating a new motherboard or BIOS chip, neither of which were cheap at the time.

i dont like viruses.
my englisch is not so realy great,
but,
why schould someone make a virus?
what do you ever get for it?
so why should you do it?
